Critical Design Review

Hey everyone!

We’ve just returned from a pivotal moment in our SOLDERx journey – the Critical Design Review (CDR) held at DLR Oberpfaffenhofen in Germany. This milestone was crucial for us as we presented the latest iteration of our design and received invaluable feedback from experts in the field.

During the CDR, we covered all aspects of our project: software, electronics, structure, and outreach. The feedback we received was incredibly detailed and will help us fine-tune every part of our design. It's amazing how much insight we gained from the session, and we're more confident than ever in the direction we're headed.

One of the key takeaways from the CDR was ... the importance of integrating feedback into our final design. We're now ready to freeze our design, which means we’ve locked in all the major components and are preparing for the next big step.

Speaking of which, our next milestone is the Integration Progress Review (IPR) coming up in August. We're gearing up for it and can't wait to showcase our progress and see everything come together.

DLR Oberpfaffenhofen was an inspiring place to visit. Being surrounded by such innovative technology and passionate professionals was a huge motivation boost for our team. We’re more excited than ever to keep pushing forward and make SOLDERx the best it can be.

Soldering Workshop at PoliFest

University Politehnica of Bucharest, 19th April 2024

Hello everyone!

We’re excited to share that our team recently organized a fun and educational soldering workshop at PoliFest, the biggest science and engineering fair in our country! Held at our university, PoliFest was an incredible event where we had the chance to showcase our SOLDERx REXUS project and talk about the amazing opportunities available through the ESA Academy.

Our booth was buzzing with activity! We were set up right next ... to other university associations, which made the atmosphere even more vibrant and inspiring. Throughout the event, we presented our project to a diverse audience including students, professors, and professionals from various scientific fields. It was great to see so many people interested in space exploration and technology!

One of the highlights of our booth was the hands-on soldering workshop we organized. We invited everyone to join in and learn both the theoretical and practical aspects of soldering from our talented members of the electric department. It was awesome to see participants, from beginners to those with a bit more experience to get involved.

People loved the chance to learn a new skill and apply it practically, and we had a blast teaching and guiding them through the process. It was a fantastic way to connect with our community and share our passion for electronics and space technology.

PoliFest was an amazing experience for all of us. We’re grateful for the opportunity to engage with so many enthusiastic individuals and to spread the word about SOLDERx and the ESA Academy. We can’t wait for our next event and to keep inspiring more people to dive into the world of science and engineering.

Preliminary Design Review

Esrange Space Center, Kiruna, Sweden, 6th February 2024

Hey everyone!

We have some exciting news to share! Our SOLDERx team recently hit a major milestone by completing the Preliminary Design Review (PDR) at the Esrange Space Center in Kiruna, Sweden. This was a valuable experience and a significant step forward for our project.

The PDR was a crucial moment for us as we presented our design and received valuable feedback from experts in the field. The critiques and suggestions we received were incredibly insightful and are already helping us refine and improve our experiment. It's amazing how much you can learn when you’re surrounded by knowledgeable professionals who are genuinely interested in seeing you succeed.

One of the highlights of the PDR was ... the focus on risk management. We learned so much about identifying potential risks and developing strategies to mitigate them. This knowledge is not only essential for the success of SOLDERx but also incredibly valuable for our future careers in the space industry.

But it wasn’t all work and no play! Being at the Esrange Space Center was an adventure in itself. The beauty of Kiruna, with its stunning landscapes and unique atmosphere, added an extra layer of excitement to the trip. We even had the chance to meet and connect with other student teams who are just as passionate about space as we are. Sharing ideas and experiences with them was truly inspiring.

Overall, the PDR at Esrange was an extraordinary learning experience and a great opportunity to push our project to new heights. We’re more motivated than ever to continue working hard and can’t wait to see where this journey takes us next.

Selection Workshop

ESTEC, Noordwijk, Netherlands, 27th November 2023

Hey everyone!

We are thrilled to announce that our project, SOLDERx, has been selected for the prestigious 15th cycle of the REXUS/BEXUS programme! The selection workshop took place at the European Space Research and Technology Centre (ESTEC) in the Netherlands, and it was an inspiring and educational experience for our entire team. At the workshop, we had the opportunity to attend various presentations from other innovative projects... Seeing the diverse ideas from teams across Europe was truly encouraging. It was a reminder of how much creativity and passion there is within the space community.

In addition to the presentations, we participated in several workshops designed to enhance our project's development. These sessions were helpful for us to identify the specific requirements and to ensures that our project meets the space-grade standards. Moreover, we received valuable training on how to present in a more efficient way, a skill that will undoubtedly benefit us as we move forward.

The atmosphere at ESTEC was buzzing with energy. Being surrounded by professionals from the space domain and passionate students from all over Europe was both motivating and reassuring. It was a great feeling to know that we are part of a community dedicated to pushing the boundaries of space exploration.

We left the workshop with a wealth of knowledge, a clearer direction for SOLDERx, and a renewed sense of enthusiasm. The event was not only educational but also a powerful reminder of why we are so passionate about our project and the field of space research.
